Walker Bay 8 Mast Extension
Category: Walker Bay 8, headroom, boom height
Problem: I am tall (6’4″) and found I would have to duck quite a bit when tacking while sitting on the seat.
Action: I added a mast extension of about 18″ to the top of the mast by inserting a smaller diameter aluminum tube in the top of the mast after removing the plastic top and held it in place with duct tape wrapped around to make a tight fit and then tape around the seam to hold it in place. I put the top of the mast back on top of the extension. In the picture of the top of the mast you can see some rigging which relates to other modifications.
Result” It worked Great!
When idea was conceived:
How much time it took to develop: 30 min
How much money it took to develop: None – had the tube
Current status: Removed it when I sold the boat
