Rowboat Storage Bench Seat

Problem: My 12’ rowboat is awfully small. When I sit in the back, because I am heavy, it really doesn’t sit well in the water, and it is difficult for me to reach around and steer the motor unless I am shifted to one side of the boat, which affects its balance. Also, the boat has limited storage locations.
Action: I had a fairly robust plastic crate that I decided to use as a seat that I could place in front of the rear seat of the boat. I could sit on it, it moves my weight forward, I could more easily reach around and control the motor, and there is place for storage where the water will drain from the crate. I created a top for the crate that would act as a seat and could be easily removed and then I wanted the crate to be held in place against the seat so I attached eye straps on the aluminum seat that it was up against, and connected the ends of a shoulder strap to the eye straps and then tightened it, holding the new seat in place.
Result: It works great!
When idea was conceived: 2/25/2012 – 2/26/2012
How much time it took to develop: 2 hours
How much money it took to develop: $4.00 I had most all materials
Current status: Sold the boat
Since it was originally done: Use of quick snap straps instead of a clasp would have been better since they can be adjusted to hold firmer and are more easily undone.
