Catalina 22 Pop Top Lift Rig
Category: Sailboat, rigging
Problem: The Catalina 22, like many boats of its size, has a pop top on the hatch, which provides a little more headroom. However, without additional lifters, that are I believe available, it is really a bit of a chore to lift that top, and then secure it with the bracket attached to the mast.
Action: I devised a hook out of a stainless steel strap that would fit under the front of the pop top rigged with a pulley arrangement and some bungee cords. This helped lift the top and actually hold it more safely in place while the bracket on the mast was being engaged.
Result: It worked great!
Additional Thoughts: Really, someone should install the lifters on to the pop top.
When idea was conceived: 2011
How much time it took to develop: 2 hours
How much money it took to develop: $45
Current status: Sold the boat.
Since it was originally done: I eventually removed the rig because the way I used the boat, I don’t have a need to lift the pop top.
