Sailing Canoe And Rowboat Anchor Line Movable Cleat Storage
Category: Sailing canoe, canoe, cruiser, anchor line, non kink, anchor rope
Problem: Continuing on with my desire to have all the functionality come back to the stern of the canoe, I wanted to be able to control the anchor, which is a bell anchor suspended from the bow of the canoe. From where I was sitting, of course I believed there is about 50’ of line attached to the anchor, which requires storage, but yet the ability to quickly have access to it.
Action: I took a 6” plastic cleat and cut it in half and mounted each half on the inside of the canoe rail, about 2’ apart. I then brought the anchor line around it in a crisscross fashion so there would be no twist in the line. The cleat that was closest to me I had swivel so the line could be easily removed, and then let out quickly should it be necessary.
Result: It works great!
