Sailing Canoe Jib Sail
Category: Sailing canoe, canoe, cruiser, jib sail
Problem: The sail area of my dinghy sail is 55 square feet. I was using it and the rig from the dinghy on the canoe. A way of adding more sail area was to add a jib and the attendant rig.
Action: When I bought my Catalina 22, it had a fairly lightweight small working jib that came with it. I am going to guess it was approximately 45 or 50 square feet. I thought it might be fun to see if I could put it on the canoe. I rigged a block at the top of the mast, attached some jib sheets and some cleats to hold them, and off I went.
Result: It worked great! The canoe moved faster!
