Anchor Fishing Rod Holder
Category: Fishing rod holder, fishing rod anchor
Problem: I was expecting someone to come to my dock and go fishing. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any fishing rod holders installed on my dock, and as a matter of fact, I may not want them since if they are not removable they may be trip hazards. I also didn’t know where this person might want to fish, so I wanted the rod holder to be movable.
Action: I happened to notice this 16 lb. anchor on my dock and thought that that would adequately keep a rod upright. I cut a PVC tube to accommodate a rod handle and fastened it on the anchor shaft with a stainless steel hose clamp. When you tie together two round objects, they usually find a happy place about 45 degrees from each other, which was a perfect angle for the fishing rod.
Result:It worked OK.
Additional Thoughts: What I would do next with this is add a short rope with a clip to the anchor so it could be easily carried around and I would secure a line to one side of the PVC pipe and have it so it could run around the fishing rod and be secured on the other side with a small cleat, preventing the rod from following the fish should one strike.
