Hobie 16 Jib Cleat Positioner
Category: Hobie re-rigging
Problem: Controlling the location of the jib sheet cam cleats from the trampoline. Currently, the cam cleats on either side of the trampoline slide along a track and are held in place by spring pins. Each time a new position is required, the cam cleat has to be moved to its new location. Where I sail, I am making several jib sheet cam cleat position changes and with my center seat rigging, I want to be able to easily reposition those without having to move forward on the trampoline and do it manually.
Action: Initially I thought a bungee cord fastened to the cam cleat and having it being pulled outward was the answer. I rigged it that way. Most of the time the jib cam cleat is in close to the mast. That is the default position. With the bungee pulling it outward, the cam cleat was at the opposite end of the default position. I then reversed the bungee so it is pulling the cam cleat in toward the mast, and then I have it rigged so that I pull a line to move the cam cleat outward to the position needed.
Result: It worked great!
