Sunfish Bow Pull Handle
Category: Sunfish, small boat, bow, handle, grip, sailboat
Problem: The bow handle on a Sunfish, while it looks nice, is really difficult and somewhat awkward for a person, particularly with a large hand, to pull the boat up directly from the bow. The hand is at an awkward angle and it gets crunched. Also, only one hand really is able to fit in the handle.
Action: I found a small piece of line and a piece of vinyl tubing, 5/8” diameter, threaded the line through it and then tied the ends of the line together through the bow handle forming a padded loop large enough to get both hands on and of course, it was comfortable. Now, one could untie the line and then store the apparatus and tie it back on when one wanted to haul the boat, however, I have left it on so it is always there.
Result: It worked great! It was on that boat for years!
Additional Thoughts: This was the first addition I made to the Sunfish when I got my first one.
