Problem: It is important for me to have my leaf vacuum easy to get to, already plugged in, and ready to go, so there is no setup. I just vacuum or blow the leaves on my carport and can do so at a moment’s notice. The place most convenient happens to be right next to my workbench in my shop area in the carport. I have a number of different hooks, but they require drilling into my workbench top or support, which I didn’t want to do. I thought that a C-clamp would be ideal if I could find a way of hanging something from the handle.
Action: I chose a 6” C-clamp that would be sturdy enough to hold the leaf vac, but of course the handle slides back and forth in the hole in the screw part of the C-clamp. It occurred to me that if that was held in place that would work well, and all I would have to do next was find a way of having some kind of an upright to keep the vacuum from sliding off. As it turned out, in my miscellaneous parts, I had a bar of aluminum about 2” long, that already had a 1/4 20 thread tapped into a hole in the middle of it, that would be perfect as an upright. Then, I said, what if I drilled and tapped a 1/4 20 thread into the screw part of the C-clamp and replaced the sliding handle with a long stainless steel screw. I did it! The screw is held in place, extended outward because of the threads. I then screwed on a Nylok stainless steel nut, then screwed in the aluminum bar and then screwed on another Nylok nut. The bar is now secure but it can now be rotated so the vacuum can easily slide in or out, and when it is in, rotated to its vertical position holding the leaf vac in place. And, should I want to remove the C clamp, the long screw is there to do so.
Result: It works great!
