Vac Hose Dancer Pulley
Category: Shop vac, shop vacuum, storage, vacuum accessory
Problem: I have a small shop located in one half of the carport, which means I don’t have an installed vacuum line system, so I use my shop vac. I need two lengths of hose to reach within my shop so I can keep the shop vac in basically one location. However, that’s a lot of hose to be snaking around the floor. I wanted it out of the way, but yet accessible when I needed it.
Action: I thought it would be a great solution to have the hose pulled up to the ceiling and out of the way when I wasn’t using it, and I would be able to pull it to where I needed it. I bought a couple of clothesline pulleys and made counterweights with two 2-liter bottles filled with water (initially used a can of paint remover) to balance out the weight of the hose. In addition to the dancer pulley system, the two tubes and end fitting are hung on a hook close by my workbench via rope wrapped and taped around one of the tubes and suspended from a hook.
Result: It works great! Now when I pull the hose, the weights are pulled up and I can use it wherever I want. When I’m done, the weights pull the hose back up and out of the way. Where the lift portion of the line was connected to the tube, it was basically wrapped around with a hook on it so it could be easily unhooked should I want to move the shop vac and the hose to another location.
