Band Saw Blade Changing Stop
Category: Band saw, blade changing, blade handling, blade safety, tool
Problem: I needed to make it easier to change my band saw blade. My small 9-inch throat Ryobi band saw is really great. However from time to time I need to change the blade, or when it inadvertently slips off, mostly because I’ll pull back on the piece when I’m done cutting and the blade teeth will get caught. When I go to put the blade back on the drive wheels the blade wants to spring out. This seemed to occur at the place where I put the blade on the wheels and up against the housing for the on/off switch. It would pop out because the housing for the on/off switch has an angle on it to allow the cover to close over it snugly. This has been very frustrating. I wanted to have something that the blade would go up against so it would be held in place and not slip off the drive wheels and fall on the floor.
Action: After thinking of a number of alternatives I came upon a clamp and clipped it into a casting ridge of the saw next to the on/off switch housing. When I put the blade in over the wheels up against that clamp it’s stayed right in place and made it very easy for me to turn the blade onto the wheels.
Result: It works great!
