Problem: I purchased a Bayco cord reel that had outlets in it. I wound a long extension cord that comes almost to the same diameter as the sides of the reel when the cord is fully wound on the reel. Letting the cord out, or reeling it back in, when the reel is full, is problematic because the cord wants to jump off the reel or not come on to the reel if it is not exactly lined up in the middle. This has been a huge frustration.
Action: I thought if a guide was attached to the base of the reel, that the cord would have to be fed through, particularly as the reel was nearing capacity, that the cord would stay within the sides of the reel. I found some metal that was bent at about the right shape, cut part of it off, and then secured it to the base of the reel with a hose clamp. The uprights of the guide are about 3”.
Result: It works great!
