Problem: When I was using the Shopsmith in the lathe configuration I wanted to use it as a drill press. I would tilt the table so the table would be vertical and when I wanted to hold something in the vise, it needed to be suspended in position.
Action: I developed a strap that would catch on the vise edge, go over the top of the table where it was secured, and then I could adjust the height of the vise as well as the position back and forth, so the piece I was drilling a hole in was held securely in the vise, and I didn’t have to reconfigure the Shopsmith for making a few holes.
Result: It worked great!
