Problem: I always need additional surface area in my workshop for positioning tools or materials as I am working on a project. I always need more work surface, but yet I do not have a lot of room in my shop.
Action: I happened to have my band saw and grinder on a metal storage rack on wheels. I came across a pet ramp and decided to use it as an extended work surface.that pulls out from 48” to 80”. I put this on top of the rack, upside down, placed the grinder and band saw on top, and then when I needed extra shelf space in my work area I would extend the ramp to a needed length.
Result: The result is I have substantial shop area as needed right next to my vise. This has made working on my various projects much more pleasant.
Additional Thoughts: These ramps are quite expensive, about $110 new. However, finding a way to extend work surfaces easily is a very valuable asset within the shop.
Current status: No longer in use – rearranged shop and sold ramp
