Problem: One of the challenges of a pet owner is feeding the pet a consistent amount of food based on their age and activity level, etc. I found is was really pretty easy for me to overfeed my dog and lo and behold, I took him to the vet where he was weighed, and he was about 5 pounds more than would be ideal, and certainly more than I thought he was. Also when I boarded at a friend’s house when travelling, I wanted to make it easy for them to provide the correct amount of food. I wanted to find a way to easily scoop out the portion that would be required, basically having the portion be level with the top of the scoop, in this case, one of my old beer mugs.
Action: I measured out, in a measuring cup, the amount that would be appropriate at a given time, put it into the mug, and then noted the difference between the bottom and the top. I cut a foam pad to be inserted in the bottom of the mug so that when the scoop of food was taken, it would be level with the top of the mug. In this particular case, at that time, his portion was 2 of those partial mugs. With the measuring device in there, it made it very easy to consistently pull out half of his portion with each scoop.
Result: It works great!
Additional Thoughts: The thickness of the insert could be modified at any time and of course it could be cut to fit any diameter scoop or mug.
