Pet Nail Clipper Modification
Category: Pet accessories, pet nail clippers, grooming
Problem: I upgraded to a pair of more robust dog toenail clippers that had a lever when moved forward would keep the jaws closed and then when moved backward you could use the clippers. The problem was that the lever moved freely back and forth and it was on top of the clipper when it is held in the right hand. When I closed the clipper after a cut, the lever could fall back into the locked position, meaning I had to let go of the dog or hold the clipper up and shake it so the lever would become disengaged and I could open the clipper again. Needless to say, this increased the stress associated with an already stressful situation for both clipper and pet.
Action: I had slipped a rubber band with a couple of loops over the handle next to the lever, and when I go to use the clipper, I hold the lever back in place with the rubber band. Now it is hold the dog’s foot, clip, and clip quickly, and the dog receives his treat sooner.
Result: It works great!
Additional Thoughts: I really love using these industrial strength slippers as modified, with one exception. The spacer ought to be adjustable.
