Paper Towel Holder
Category: Household, kitchen, workshop
Problem: A friend of mine had purchased a paper towel holder that fits over the top of a kitchen cabinet door and swings in and out, depending on the size of the roll. However, the way the location for this holder and the way it was manufactured meant that when you pulled on the paper towel to tear it off, you had to hold the roll so it wouldn’t slip off the holder when it was mounted on the right hand door.
Action: The rod had a groove cut in it and a small metal flap connected to a bracket that holds it on the door, which was pushed down into the groove holding it in place. I pried it up and was able to reverse the rod and hammer the metal tab back into the groove.
Result: It works great!
Additional Thoughts: If the manufacturer had put a set screw in, instead of mashing down a tab, the arm could have easily been reversed to accommodate a specific location or the handedness of a left-handed person.
