Fireplace Receipt Burner
Category: Household, wire cage, destroy papers, office
Problem: From time to time I have had documents that I really would prefer to not even shred. I thought that burning them in the fireplace might be a good idea. When I tried burning some receipts in the fire, they would flare up where I would have to reach in and throw it in, and it was not very satisfactory.
Action: I created a metal cage out of gutter topping and inserted some U-shaped pieces out of coat hanger to crisscross in the ends, that are easily removable. I inserted the papers in, closed off the ends, and put it in the fire. With this cage, I could fill it with papers, open up the fireplace access, and put it in, all at one time.
Result: It worked great!
