Laptop Desk Creating An Upper Shelf
Category: Laptop cart, furniture, living room, office
Problem: I had a couple of problems associated with the use of my laptop cart. One was that I had a narrow space in which to use the cart where my chair was located and also I wanted to be able to easily look up to reference documents or to store some documents that I wasn’t using at the moment, such as paying bills, kind of up out of the way.
Action: The post that raised and lowered the small side of the shelf was held in place by a knob. I removed the shelf and added initially a piece of wood and later a metal tube such that the shelf could be about 14 or 15 inches higher than the larger shelf. And I could then reverse the smaller shelf so it was above the larger one. This still provides the functionality but can be used in a much narrower space. Should I want to return the smaller shelf to its original location, all I have to do is remove the metal tube extension. When I was working on a number of items such as paying a number of bills, I learned quickly that I needed to have an open box or a tray placed on the top shelf so the papers wouldn’t slide off, because I did want the shelf at an angle so I could reach up and see what was there.
