Swivel Chair Height Fix

Problem: I have an office chair in which the height adjustment broke such that the spring would move it up to the top but then when you sat on it, it would sink down all the way to the bottom.
Action: After doing some normal troubleshooting, I decided to basically ignore the way it worked and create a stop for the desired height. In my case, it was pretty near the top of the range because of my height. I cut away much of the compressible plastic tube surrounding the mechanism so I could have access to it, and determined the height of the insert required to keep the seat at the desired level. Then I took a piece of 2” PVC pipe cut to that length and cut it in half lengthwise. I put either half on the shaft of the chair support. They nested into each other and I held them together with two stainless steel hose clamps.
Result: It works great!
Additional Thoughts: I suppose if I was so inclined, I could spray paint it all black, so it wouldn’t be so obvious underneath.
